This year's UEFA Champions League has had a lot of surprises. Who would of thought that we would see Leipzig or Lyon in the semifinals. The semifinals will be composed of four teams from the last two national World Champions (France and Germany). The German underdogs RB Leipzig will face the French powerhouse PSG and the French underdogs Lyon will be facing the German powerhouse Bayern.
PSG vs. RB Leipzig
This should be an interesting matchup. Leipzig will be playing their first semifinal in team history. They have only existed for eleven years, created by the energy drink company Red Bull in 2009. The team is coached by the young 33 year old Julian Nagelsmann who is bound to draw the eyes of several teams after the end of the season. No one expects Leipzig to win this game, but if this year’s UCL tells us something is that anything can happen. Especially after PSG was almost eliminated by Atalanta but were able to come back with two goals in the last 3 minutes of extra time. Nevertheless, I’m gonna go with the safe bet and predict that PSG will take this one. Mbappe is healthy and ready to start the game, which should give them a boost on offense. If all their stars show up ready to play, PSG should be able to punch their ticket to the final and end RB Leipzig’s cinderella run.
FC Bayern vs. Lyon
Lyon have surprised everyone this year by reaching the semis, especially with their quarterfinal win against Manchester City. Memphis Depay, the former Manchester United Dutch player has been playing very well, scoring 6 goals in 7 matches in this year’s Champions League for the French side. They will be no match for Bayern, however, who have been demolishing team after team coming off a massive 8-2 win against Barça. Lewandowski has been Ballon D’or worthy with 14 goals in 8 games. They have a terrific team all around, and I would be shocked if they do not handily win the whole tournament this year.
In conclusion, these should be interesting matchups, but the favorites should come out on top, and Bayern will probably become UEFA champions for the 6th time in their history.
